After Cosmetic Dental Reconstruction
Home Care Instructions
- Adjusting to Your New Bite
It may take time to adjust to your new bite after your dental reconstruction. Your brain needs a few days to recognize the new position and thickness of your teeth as normal. If you continue to feel any high spots or issues with your bite, please contact us at Pearly Smiles Dental, 630-454-7655, to schedule an adjustment appointment. - Sensitivity
Sensitivity to hot and cold is normal following the procedure, as your teeth need time to heal. Your gums may also be tender for a few days. To ease discomfort:
Rinse with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day.
Take a mild pain reliever such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin) every 3-4 hours as needed. - Speech and Salivation
Your speech might feel slightly different at first, but you will quickly adapt. Increased salivation is common, as your brain adjusts to the new size and shape of your teeth. This should subside within a week. - Oral Hygiene
Continue to brush and floss daily to keep your new dental work in good condition. Plaque removal is critical for the long-term success of your restoration. Regular cleaning appointments will also be necessary to maintain your results. - Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods
Avoid foods that can crack, chip, or damage your new teeth, such as hard candies, ice, nuts, and sticky candies. Additionally, smoking can stain your new teeth, and foods such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries can also cause discoloration. Minimize or avoid these items. - Night Guard and Sports Mouthguard
If you grind your teeth at night, wear the night guard provided by our office to protect your new restorations. If you play sports, inform us so we can make a custom mouthguard for you to avoid injury. - Follow-Up and Concerns
Adjusting to your new smile will take time. If you have any questions, concerns, or issues such as discomfort, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Pearly Smiles Dental, 630-454-7655. We are here to ensure your comfort and satisfaction with your new dental work.
