After Crown and Bridge Appointments
Home Care Instructions for Crowns & Bridges
- Temporary Crown/Bridge Care
If you received a temporary crown or bridge, it is essential to be cautious until your permanent restoration is placed. Avoid sticky or hard foods that may dislodge or damage the temporary crown or bridge. If it becomes loose or falls out, contact our office immediately. - Sensitivity
Some sensitivity to temperature, pressure, or sweet foods is common after crown and bridge appointments. This should subside after a few days. Use desensitizing toothpaste, and take over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Tylenol to help manage discomfort. - Gum Soreness
Your gums may feel sore around the treated area for a few days. Rinsing with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) 2-3 times a day can help reduce soreness and inflammation. - Oral Hygiene
Continue to brush and floss carefully around the treated area. For temporary crowns or bridges, floss gently and pull the floss through rather than pulling it up to avoid dislodging the restoration. For permanent restorations, regular brushing and flossing are critical for long-term success. - Final Crown/Bridge
After the placement of your permanent crown or bridge, it may take a few days to adjust to the feel of the new restoration. If your bite feels uneven or uncomfortable, please contact us for an adjustment. - Diet
Avoid chewing on hard or sticky foods that could damage your crown or bridge. Be especially cautious with items such as nuts, ice, or sticky candies that could cause issues with your restoration. - Follow-Up
If you experience persistent discomfort, sensitivity, or any issues with your crown or bridge, contact us immediately. Regular dental checkups are essential to monitor the health of your restorations and overall oral health.
