After Deep Cleaning

  • Bleeding and Soreness
It is normal to experience slight bleeding, tenderness, or discomfort in the treated areas for a few days. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) 2-3 times a day to reduce pain and promote healing. If discomfort persists, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Tylenol as directed.
  • Oral Hygiene
Continue your regular brushing and flossing routine, but be gentle around the treated areas. After a few days, you can return to brushing and flossing normally. Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for healing and preventing further gum disease.
  • Swelling
Mild swelling or gum tenderness is normal. You can reduce swelling by applying a cold compress to the outside of your mouth for 10-15 minutes at a time for the first 24 hours.
  • Diet
Avoid hard, crunchy, spicy, or acidic foods for the first 24-48 hours, as they may irritate the treated areas. Stick to soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, and soup. Also, avoid hot beverages for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid Smoking
Refrain from smoking for at least 72 hours after the deep cleaning, as smoking delays the healing process and can worsen gum disease.
  • Sensitivity
You may experience sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods and drinks. This sensitivity should decrease over time. Using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help alleviate this discomfort.
  • Follow-Up Care
Attend any follow-up appointments as scheduled to monitor healing and ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. We may recommend more frequent cleanings to help maintain your gum health.
  • Prescription Medication (if applicable)
If you were prescribed any medication, follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional to ensure proper healing and recovery.
