Baby Teeth Extraction

Post-Op Instructions for Baby Teeth Extraction

  1. Bleeding
It’s normal for your child to experience light bleeding for a few hours after the extraction. Have them bite down on the provided gauze for 15–30 minutes to help stop the bleeding. If bleeding continues, replace the gauze and have them bite down again. If it persists after several hours, contact our office.
  2. Pain Management
Mild discomfort is common after an extraction. You can give your child over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol or Ibuprofen, as directed. Avoid aspirin, as it can increase bleeding.
  3. Eating and Drinking
Avoid giving your child hard, crunchy, or spicy foods for the rest of the day. Offer soft foods like yogurt, applesauce, or mashed potatoes. Encourage them to avoid using straws, as sucking can dislodge the blood clot.
  4. Oral Hygiene
Your child can brush their teeth, but avoid the extraction site for the first day. Rinsing with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water) the day after the extraction can help with healing.
  5. Activity
Encourage your child to rest for the remainder of the day. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
  6. Follow-Up
Watch for signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, or fever. If any of these occur, or if you have concerns, please contact our office.
