Post Root Canal Home Care
Post-Root Canal Home Care Instructions
- Pain and Sensitivity:
- It’s normal to feel mild discomfort and sensitivity for a few days after a root canal. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce pain and inflammation.
- Eating and Drinking:
- Avoid eating until the numbness from anesthesia has fully worn off to prevent biting your cheek or tongue.
- For the first few days, eat softer foods and avoid chewing on the treated side of your mouth.
- Oral Hygiene:
- Keep your mouth clean by brushing and flossing gently, especially around the treated area.
- Rinse with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) to soothe the area and promote healing.
- Avoid Certain Habits:
- Do not chew hard foods or ice on the treated side, as this can damage the tooth.
- Avoid smoking, as it can delay healing.
- Follow-Up Care:
- A permanent crown or filling is usually recommended to fully restore the tooth. Please schedule a follow-up visit to complete this process.
