Post Root Canal Home Care

Post-Root Canal Home Care Instructions

  1. Pain and Sensitivity:
  • It’s normal to feel mild discomfort and sensitivity for a few days after a root canal. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce pain and inflammation.
  1. Eating and Drinking:
  • Avoid eating until the numbness from anesthesia has fully worn off to prevent biting your cheek or tongue.
  • For the first few days, eat softer foods and avoid chewing on the treated side of your mouth.
  1. Oral Hygiene:
  • Keep your mouth clean by brushing and flossing gently, especially around the treated area.
  • Rinse with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) to soothe the area and promote healing.
  1. Avoid Certain Habits:
  • Do not chew hard foods or ice on the treated side, as this can damage the tooth.
  • Avoid smoking, as it can delay healing.
  1. Follow-Up Care:
  • A permanent crown or filling is usually recommended to fully restore the tooth. Please schedule a follow-up visit to complete this process.
